Another in the series of declining summer street parties; half a dozen people crammed into the gazebo under overcast skies and drizzle, and surrounded by the gas people’s excavations.
A1 is reading Ashram Assassin by Andrew Cartmel. A2 is reading City of Sinners (that’s Bradford for you) by AA Dhand (thx A1).

Street Party
After a gap of a couple of years, the street party on “The Green” is back, with even fewer people. Still it was a chance to show off the new gazebo and cool bench they blagged from a charity for use one day out of 365.
Admin1 is reading Bloody Genius by John Sandford. Admin2 is reading Bullet Train by Kotaro Isaka; a terrifying farce involving dozens of murders on the Tokyo-Morioka Shinkansen.
Street Party
A view from the drone. Not as sunny or as well-attended as previous years, but the rain held off until 6pm.
Admin1 is reading Yellowhammer by Henry, James. Admin2 is reading Gun Island by Amitav Ghosh; mythology, migration and an Indian merchant of Venice.
We are drinking Rwandan Maraba coffee and scored 10.5 on the GWQ.
Happy Birthday Admin1
A street party on the traffic island to celebrate on yet another hot and sunny day. We saw more noctilucent clouds in the early hours, and there are more tonight.
Admin1 is reading Sympathy for the Devil by William Shaw. Admin2 is reading Don’t Let Go by Michel Bussi, an ingenious mystery set on Reunion and with a plot dependent on the topography and meteorology of that island. We scored 12 on the GWQ!
Crowd of the Day: Street Party
Manufactured event to meet the neighbours. It was a great day for it: 33.3°C and 12.47 kWh of sunshine. Admin2 sulked. Admin1 went along and won a prize.
Admin1 is reading The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O. by Neal Stephenson and Nicole Galland (entertaining froth, but overlong; Adam Roberts’ Guardian review got it right, in that it’s written like a comedy without actually being very funny). Admin2 is reading Missing, Presumed by Susie Steiner. And we scored 8.5, thanks to generous marking, on the Guardian Weekend Quiz.
